Gala des petits bedons: Back for a Second Year

The goal: Raise funds to help create a clinical data and human tissue bank in Québec.

Such a resource would be a huge help in making decisive progress on three interconnected fronts: describing how diseases progress, predicting the direction they will take and leveraging sophisticated prognosis methods to develop treatments and mitigate long-term effects.

The cause: Advance gastroenterology and hepatology at Sainte-Justine to better identify how children’s digestive and liver diseases progress and interact.

The inspiration: Canadians are high on the list when it comes to the risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease.

In Quebec, Sainte-Justine treats the majority of children with gastrointestinal, liver and bile duct diseases and is the only pediatric liver transplantation centre in the country.

The hospital’s gastroenterology, hepatology and pediatric nutrition teams are among the country’s top authorities in these fields. They are known across Canada and around the world for their ongoing contributions to clinical and basic research and to teaching.

The people: 334 registered participants. One ticket per household to access the event.

The fundraising target: $100,000

The final tally: Just shy of $450,000
